Wholesale Hawaii Sweet Potato
Growing and Distributing Purple Yam in Hawaii
Hawaii sweet potato, also known as purple yam or what the local population like to call Okinawan sweet potato, is another very popular product. It grows well in Hawaii because of the volcanic soil that is rich in vitamins. We grow and wholesale this delicious product, shipping it to many cities across the United States and Canada.
Hawaii Basil Herbs Farm started our purple yam adventure back in 2012. Known locally as Okinawan sweet potato, there were quite a few challenges to overcome. After the fields are plowed and left in the sunlight for 3-6 months, purple yam cuttings can be planted. From planting the initial cuttings to harvest, it takes about 7 months to grow sweet potato or purple yam.
Hawaii sweet potato is graded according to its size. #1 grade weighs about 1 lb. #2 grade weighs about 6 ounces. #3 grade is our smallest and weighs less than 6 ounces.
